چکیده
A case is reported that provides further evidence of an old occupational hazard, dysbaric osteonecrosis, presenting in a new population (sports scuba divers) who also appear to be at risk. It highlights the need for an accurate diagnosis of diving related illness.

Hemoptysis and pulmonary edema in a scuba diver using diclofenac.
Hemoptysis and pulmonary edema associated with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug use is a known condition, but is probably underreported. The mechanisms of induction of pulmonary toxicity are still not well understood. We describe a case of hemoptysis and dyspnea in a scuba diver who was taking diclofenac.
متن کاملAseptic Necrosis of Bone in a Compressed
This paper reports a detailed examination of three lesions of aseptic necrosis of bone occurring in a man who had worked in compressed air eleven years previously. Although two of the lesions were juxta-articular, in neither had the bone collapsed. Histology of only one similar lesion is reported in the literature (McCallum Ct a!. 1966). Necropsy material is considered, together with radiograph...
متن کاملThe absence of hearing loss in otologically asymptomatic recreational scuba divers.
We undertook a retrospective cohort study of 16 experienced recreational scuba divers and 16 matched non-diver controls to determine the prevalence of hearing loss and, if present, the likely causes of this loss. Each subject was required to be aged 55 years or less and to have no history or likelihood of hearing loss. An audiologist, blinded to each subject's group status, undertook all examin...

Autopsy confirmed death due to both drowning and a penetrating knife wound. The incident was first considered a homicide and two suspects were arrested. Careful forensic analysis of the profile of the diver's last dive stored in the dive computer, dimensions of the under...
متن کاملBuoyancy Compensation: Use or Abuse
The modern scuba diver has become a slave of the buoyancy compensator. Throughout scuba diving history the diver has had to cope with variations in buoyancy due to suit compression and air usage. During the past five years scores of buoyancy compensation units have appeared on the market. Frequently manufacturers and instructors indicate that the buoyancy compensator is extremely useful for aid...
